The Bible speaks clearly into money matters and teaches that God expects all His people, both the wealthy (1 Tim 6:17-19) and the poor (Luke 21:1-4), to adopt a lifestyle of generous and cheerful giving. Giving financially and living a lifestyle of generosity is a way in which we can worship God, giving thanks to Him for His many blessings to us. We believe that the Bible teaches that those who are a part of the local church, should, through their tithes and offerings, provide the necessary financial support for that local church.
“Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.”

WHY SO MANY ACCOUNTS?
Biblically we see various areas of giving for the believer, such as tithes, offerings, alms and apostolic giving. To facilitate giving to these areas, as well as for ease of administering the funds to the correct end point, Church-on-Main has opened various accounts.
Tithes are used to pay people who work in ministry (Num 18:21, 1 Tim 5:17-18; 1 Cor 9:14). The word ‘tithe’ means ‘a tenth’, so by definition it is 10% of one’s total income. The Bible speaks of bringing tithes “into the storehouse” (Mal 3:10); the first fruits of our income go to the place where we are spiritually fed, watched over and cared for – the local church that we are a part of. We believe that tithing still applies in the New Testament, as it is a practise which predates the law (Gen 14 & 28), and is one that Jesus affirms (Matt 23:23).
Offering, or contribution, is a free-will gift amount brought to the local church over and above the tithe (Mal 3:8). Offerings are used for ministry related ‘things’ such as: rent, sound gear, tea, computers, carpets, lights, water, to name a few. Property giving is a specific category of offering for which have a separate account. See the Property account for details.
“But if anyone has the world’s goods and sees his brother in need, yet closes his heart against him, how does God’s love abide in him?” 1 John 3:17.
Jesus taught that we should give generously to the needy, especially “to those who are of the household of faith” (Gal 6:10). One of the best ways to give to the poor is to do so through the local church.
At Church-on-Main we believe God has called us to be a base from which ministry gifts go out to other churches and nations, and also a base at which other gifts are received to help build up the body of Christ (Eph 4:11-16). For this reason we have an account specifically for giving into this area (Phil 4:10-20).
We believe in sending people to other nations to spread the gospel message by planting biblical local churches. Our church planting account is used to support those who we send out.
Our community regularly enjoys time away for fellowship and ministry in groups – leadership, students, men, women, married couples, and other groups. Use this account when paying for your camp. Please use your surname and the name of the camp as your reference.
Use the events account to pay for any of our courses or events. Please use your surname and the name of the event as your reference.
We have recently bought a property in Wynberg, which is now our base venue, called The Mill. We continue to work and upgrade this property and would also like to be able to purchase more properties in the city from which to advance the cause of Christ. We have thus created an offering category specifically for property.
