WHY WE GIVE?
The Bible speaks clearly into money matters. Some estimate that up to 15 percent of Jesus’ spoken words in the gospels are related to financial things. When thinking about finances, an important truth to remember is that all wealth comes from God, and so we do not actually give to God from what is ours, rather we decide what to keep and we give back to Him from what He gave us.
“But who am I, and what is my people, that we should be able thus to offer willingly? For all things come from you, and of your own have we given you.” 1 Ch 29:14
The Bible tells us that God expects all His people, both the wealthy (1 Tim 6:17-19) and the poor (Luke 21:1-4), to adopt a lifestyle of generous and cheerful giving. This is an area that some people consider to be ‘private’, which God is not invited to rule over, but like all other areas of our lives, we need to follow Christ’s example when it comes to generosity. We should aim to excel in giving, just as we seek to do well in the other things that God calls us to do.
“But since you excel in everything – in faith, in speech, in knowledge, in complete earnestness and in the love we have kindled in you – see that you also excel in this grace of giving.” 2 Cor 8:7
“Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.” 2 Cor 9:7
“For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, yet for your sake he became poor, so that you by his poverty might become rich.” 2 Cor 8:9
Giving financially and living a lifestyle of generosity is a way in which we can worship God, giving thanks to Him for His many blessings to us. Our generosity can also be the very thing that brings others to Christ, as it demonstrates God’s unsurpassable generosity and is a testimony of our genuine faith and salvation.
“This service that you perform is not only supplying the needs of the Lord’s people but is also overflowing in many expressions of thanks to God. Because of the service by which you have proved yourselves, others will praise God for the obedience that accompanies your confession of the gospel of Christ, and for your generosity in sharing with them and with everyone else” 2 Cor 9:12-13
Money is a resource from God, and He expects us to be faithful stewards with all He entrusts to us, including our finances. We believe that the Bible teaches that those who are part of that local church should through their tithes and offerings provide the necessary financial support for that local church. There are many opportunities to sow financially into the church for the advancing of God’s kingdom.

“For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also… No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.” Matt 6:21;24
